The Area

Lake Superior country, through all four seasons

We are near Lake Superior and a long list of places to see and experience — kayaking, beaching, fishing, skiing, cross-country and snowshoeing, ice climbing and hiking, depending on when you come.

Angler fly fishing on a misty northern river at sunrise

Spring

The river wakes up. Fishing, birdsong, long quiet mornings on the deck and the first warm evenings in the hot tub.

Two kayakers paddling clear turquoise water below Lake Superior cliffs

Summer

Kayaking and beaching along the Lake Superior shoreline, swimming, hiking and sunsets that run late into the evening.

Hiking trail through brilliant red and gold autumn forest

Autumn

Maple and birch colour across the hills, empty trails, crisp air and the fireplace lit when you come back in.

Snowshoe tracks through deep snow in a quiet pine forest

Winter

Cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, downhill skiing and ice climbing — then a hot tub under a very dark, very starry sky.

What people say after a stay

Waking up to the river and mist off the water, then a hot tub at night with no sound but the current. We did nothing for three days and it was perfect.

Guest reviewSample review

Spotlessly clean, beautifully finished and every detail thought through. Judith answered every question before we even asked it.

Guest reviewSample review

We rented both sides for a family weekend. Separate entrances meant everyone had their own space, and we still ate together every night.

Meet your host

Judith Marion-McFadden

My background is real estate, interior decorating and design, restaurant ownership, and now food manufacturing as well. I have travelled extensively, and this project was something my husband and I wanted to do together. He was an architect.

Unfortunately he passed before finishing this venture, and I have recently completed it. The undertaking was mostly about refurbishing everything and adding on, where we had always built new or renovated before. I am pleased with the end result and am sure you will be also.

A personal welcome, from our riverbank to yours.
